COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Early Childhood Education and Practice is a four-year honours degree designed to prepare students for professional roles in early childhood education, supporting children from birth to six years and extending to school-aged care. The program emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to provide high-quality care, education, and support to children and their families.In Year 1, students build a foundation in child development, psychology, sociology, health and well-being, early childhood education theory, and creative arts practice. Play-based pedagogy and supervised professional practice enable students to translate theory into practical skills while learning to support positive learning environments. Year 2 expands professional experience through supervised practice and deepens understanding of diversity, inclusion, language development, school-aged childcare, and the psychology and sociology of children and childhoods. Students continue to develop creative arts practice for both early childhood and school-aged contexts.Year 3 focuses on curriculum design, critical perspectives on children’s health and wellbeing, law, regulation, and inspection in early childhood education, STEM curriculum integration, advanced pedagogical practices, and supporting children with educational needs. Supervised professional practice provides extensive hands-on experience to consolidate learning.In Year 4, students develop leadership and management skills through modules on leadership in early childhood education, supervision, and mentorship. Emerging issues in theory and practice, research methods, and project work equip students to engage critically with the field and contribute to evidence-based practice. Supporting families and communities is a central theme, ensuring graduates understand the wider social context of education.Graduates emerge as skilled, knowledgeable, and reflective practitioners, capable of delivering high-quality early childhood education, fostering children’s holistic development, and making meaningful contributions to families, communities, and the professional sector.
