COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Laws (Hons) program is structured over four years and is divided into eight semesters, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of legal principles and their practical applications. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of law and the Irish legal system. Modules such as Government and Politics of Ireland, Legal Method, Legal Skills, and The Irish Legal System help students understand how law operates within society and how legal processes function. Students also study introductory subjects like Civil Liability and Family Relationships and the Law, along with topics such as Children, Law and Society, Current Legal Issues, and Law and Social Justice. These subjects help develop basic legal knowledge while strengthening skills in legal writing, analysis, and research. In the second year, the program focuses on core areas of law that are essential for a legal education. Students study subjects including Commercial Law, Constitutional Law, Contract Law, Labour Law, the Law of Tort, and Probate and the Law of Wills. Each of these areas is taught across two semesters, allowing students to gain a deeper understanding of legal rules, principles, and their real-world implications. This stage of the course builds a stronger foundation in legal reasoning and prepares students to analyze more complex legal issues.During the third year, students continue to expand their legal knowledge with subjects such as Administrative Law, Criminal Law, Equity and the Law of Trusts, and Land Law. They also undertake Legal Research, which develops advanced research and analytical skills necessary for legal practice and academic study. In addition, students can choose elective modules from a range of law subjects offered by the institution, allowing them to explore areas that match their interests and career goals. In the final year, students study advanced subjects including Company Law, Criminal Evidence, Civil Evidence, and European Union Law. They also complete an Independent Study in Law, which allows them to conduct in-depth research on a specific legal topic. Along with additional elective modules, the final year helps students specialize further and prepare for professional careers or postgraduate studies in law and related fields.
