COURSE CURRICULUM
Year 1 of the Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Recreation and Sport Management introduces students to the foundations of sport, exercise science, and business. Core modules include Introduction to Sport and Exercise Science, Sports Studies, and Sports Pedagogy, alongside business-focused modules such as Introduction to Sports Business Practice, Principles of Marketing, and Applied Human Resource Management. Students also develop skills in communication, IT, and research, while gaining an understanding of the sociology of sport and recreation planning. Physiology for Sport and Exercise is also introduced to provide a scientific basis for understanding human performance.In Year 2, the course builds on these foundations with more specialized modules in Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Programming, Sport and Exercise Psychology, and Event Management. Students learn about facility operations, sport and event tourism, and services marketing, while gaining practical knowledge in project management and IT applications. Financial and economic principles are also introduced through Accounting and Financial Information and Economics, giving students the business skills needed to operate in sport and recreation sectors.Year 3 focuses on enterprise, entrepreneurship, and applied experience. Students take modules in Financial Decision Making, Recreation and Social Interventions, and Research Methods and Statistical Analysis. This year also includes a work placement, providing hands-on experience in a sport or recreation setting. Elective modules allow students to specialize in areas such as Adapted Physical Activity, Group Fitness Instruction, Sports Coaching, Outdoor Recreation, or Teaching and Assessment Methodologies for Aquatics, giving flexibility to tailor the degree to individual interests.In Year 4, students explore strategic, governance, and contemporary issues in sport and recreation. Core modules include Recreation Business Policy, Strategic Leisure Management, Sports Governance and Ethics, and a two-part Final Project. Electives in sport and business provide opportunities for specialization in areas such as Sport Marketing, Sport Technology, Community Recreation, Performance Psychology, or Outdoor Recreation Management. This combination of core and elective modules ensures that graduates leave the program with a strong knowledge of the business of sport, practical experience, and the skills needed to succeed in a wide variety of careers in sport, recreation, and fitness industries.
