COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics & Finance stream on the common entry Bachelor of Business (Hons) (BBS Hons) program allows students to specialise in advanced economic and financial studies in the final two years, building on a broad foundation from the first two years of common modules. In Year 1, students develop essential business skills through modules such as Introduction to Financial Accounting, Introduction to Management, Organisational Behaviour, Microeconomics, Business & Financial Maths, and Introduction to Human Resource Management. Students also choose electives such as IT & Communication Skills or a language module, which allows them to tailor their studies and gain additional transferable skills. In Year 2, core modules expand on accounting, marketing, operations, business law, human resource management, and macroeconomics, alongside opportunities for electives such as International Business Environment, Management Accounting, or Contemporary Issues in Management.Year 3 introduces specialised Economics & Finance modules including Applied Quantitative Analysis, Business Finance, Applied Finance, International Economics, and Managerial Economics. One flexible option in Semester 6 allows students to choose a teaching placement, start-up lab, international placement, work placement, or an elective module, giving practical experience and enhancing employability. Year 4 focuses on strategic and advanced applications of economics and finance through core modules such as Business Strategy, International Corporate Strategy, Digital Economy, International Risk Management, Economic Policy Issues, Financial Economics, Financial Markets & Institutions, Open Economy Macroeconomics, and Financial Data Analysis or an Economics/Finance Research Project. Students also select electives in both semesters to further customise their learning and deepen expertise in specific areas.This stream equips graduates with analytical, quantitative, and practical skills to apply economics and finance principles to real-world challenges, such as financial markets, economic policy, and global economic trends. It provides a strong foundation for careers in the financial services sector, consultancy, investment, or government, while also preparing students for postgraduate study and research opportunities in economics and finance. The combination of theoretical knowledge, applied skills, and practical experience ensures graduates are highly competitive in the job market and ready to take on demanding roles in national and international financial environments.
