COURSE CURRICULUM

The Accounting and Finance stream within the BBS (Hons) program is structured over four years, combining a strong business foundation with advanced professional accounting and finance specialisation. In Year 1, all modules are mandatory and focus on developing core competencies in accounting, economics, management, communication, IT, psychology, and quantitative analysis. Students study Business Financial Accounting 1 and 2, Communications and Academic Writing, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, IT for Business, Management in Action, Introduction to Management Theory, Business Psychology, Data Analysis for Business, and Quantitative Techniques. These subjects provide essential analytical, technical, and communication skills.Year 2 continues with mandatory modules in Business Cost Accounting, Business Management Accounting, Data Analysis for Business 2, Macroeconomy of Ireland, Business Law 1 and 2, Human Resource Management 1, Supply Chain Management, Introduction to Marketing, and Contemporary Marketing Practice. Students also choose from electives such as Intermediate Financial Accounting, Human Resource Management 2, Business Psychology 2, or IT for Business 2, allowing limited flexibility while maintaining a strong core structure.In Year 3, students specialise in accounting and finance through mandatory modules including Financial Reporting 1 and 2, Cost Accounting, Management Accounting 1, Corporate Finance in Accounting, Income Tax, Business Tax for the Self-Employed and VAT, Information Systems 1 and 2, and Commercial or Corporate Law for Accountants 1 and 2. Limited electives such as Operations Management, Managerial Economics, or Introduction to Marketing are also available.Year 4 focuses on advanced professional subjects including Advanced Financial Reporting 1 and 2, Advanced Management Accounting, Audit and Assurance 1 and 2, Advanced Corporate Finance 1 and 2, Strategic Analysis, Strategic Positioning, Corporation Tax, and Capital Taxes and Succession, preparing graduates for professional accreditation and careers in accounting and finance.
