COURSE CURRICULUM

The five-year Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) program is carefully structured to develop students’ creativity, technical competence, cultural awareness, and professional skills through a progressive and studio-centred approach. In Year 1, students are introduced to the fundamentals of architectural design, supported by modules in Cultural Context, Structures and Environmental Science, Techne Studio, Visual Communication, and Research and Academic Development, establishing core skills in design thinking, representation, and technical understanding. Year 2 builds on this foundation with more complex design projects in Architectural Design Studios 3 and 4, alongside continued study of cultural theory, environmental science, construction, and research skills, while also offering elective choices such as Detailing by Model Making or Publications. In Year 3, students further refine their design abilities in Studio 5 and may choose between Industrial Placement or Studio 6 in Semester 6, gaining valuable professional experience or extended academic exploration. This year also introduces Professional Practice and advanced research development, along with electives such as Acoustics in the Built Environment. Year 4 deepens engagement with architectural theory, conservation, and advanced studio work through Design Studios 7 and 8, supported by Techne Studios and continued research development. In the final year, students complete Design Studios 9 and 10, representing the culmination of their architectural education, while undertaking Professional Practice modules in Law and Architectural Practice and completing their final research development component. Throughout the program, design studio remains central, complemented by studies in culture, technology, environment, communication, and professional practice, ensuring graduates are fully prepared for the responsibilities and challenges of architectural careers.
