COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in Visual Art is a four-year program designed to develop students’ creative abilities, technical skills, and critical understanding of contemporary art. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in artistic practice and theory. They study Art Core Studies and Art History while learning practical skills in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional media. Modules such as 2D Media, 3D Media, Creative IT Skills, and research methods introduce students to drawing, design, and digital tools, while also encouraging critical thinking and academic research. These subjects help students understand the relationship between artistic practice and historical context.During the second year, the course expands students’ practical and theoretical knowledge. Students continue developing their skills through advanced media work and multimedia production. Modules such as Creative Multimedia, Live Art, Photography, and Painting allow students to explore different forms of visual expression. At the same time, art history subjects focus on modern art and its critics, helping students understand how artistic movements and ideas have developed over time. Students also gain experience in performance and theatre practices, which broadens their understanding of contemporary artistic approaches and interdisciplinary creativity.In the third year, the program encourages deeper research, critical thinking, and personal artistic development. Students study topics such as Postmodernism, Arts Management, and research methods while continuing to develop studio practices. They also work on projects that explore the relationship between research and artistic objects. Students choose electives such as 2D Media Studies or 3D Media Studies, allowing them to specialise in areas that match their interests and strengths. These modules help students refine their artistic voice and explore new creative directions.In the final year, students focus on professional development and independent artistic work. They complete a dissertation in art history and work on major studio projects that demonstrate their skills and creativity. Modules such as Professional Practice and Profile Development prepare students for careers in the art world. By the end of the program, students produce a significant body of work that reflects their learning, research, and personal artistic identity.
