COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Business in Sport Coaching and Management (Rugby) is a four-year honours degree that combines the study of sports coaching, player development, and business management with the science of sport. The course is designed for students passionate about rugby, coaching, and the broader sports industry, while also providing a strong foundation in business, finance, marketing, and operational management relevant to sports organizations. In Year 1, students are introduced to coaching pedagogy, player development, applied anatomy and sport physiology, foundations of sport management, and IT and research skills. Year 2 focuses on rugby-specific coaching theory and practical skills, player development, sports marketing, sports economics, injury prevention, strength and conditioning, and finance for sport. In Year 3, students expand their knowledge of people management, sponsorship in sport, fitness testing, and load monitoring, with opportunities for work placements, study abroad, sports internships, and practical rugby coaching and player development modules. Year 4 emphasizes advanced topics such as equality, diversity, and inclusion in sport, coach development and mentoring, strategy, governance and leadership, periodisation, contemporary issues in sport, and research through a dissertation project. Elective modules in areas such as event management, sports performance analysis, adapted physical activity, sport and exercise psychology, and applied data analysis allow students to tailor their studies to their interests and career goals. The program blends classroom-based learning with practical application on the pitch, in gyms, and through real-world experiences, ensuring graduates are fully prepared for careers in sports coaching, rugby player development, sports management, or related business and administration roles within professional and community sporting organizations. This course develops both the technical and analytical skills necessary to excel in coaching and sports management careers, providing hands-on experience and exposure to contemporary challenges in the sports industry.
