COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Sport Coaching and Business Management (Football) is a four-year degree that integrates sports coaching, management, and business principles. It is designed for students passionate about playing, coaching, or pursuing a career in the administration of sport, specifically football, while also developing strong business and organizational skills.In Year 1, students build foundational knowledge in coaching pedagogy, player development, applied anatomy, sport physiology, sport management, and information technology, alongside introductory accounting and professional writing skills. Year 2 focuses on advanced coaching, player development, sports marketing, economics, injury prevention, strength and conditioning, and finance for sport.Year 3 expands into finance for sport, sponsorship, people management, fitness testing and monitoring, and performance analysis. Students also gain practical experience through a work placement, sports internship, or study abroad opportunities, and have elective modules such as operations management and community sport. Year 4 develops advanced skills in equality, diversity and inclusion, periodisation, strategy, governance, and leadership, coach development and mentoring, contemporary issues in sport, and dissertation work. Elective modules include applied sports performance analysis, event management, sports psychology, adapted physical activity, and physical activity for special populations.The program combines practical training on the pitch, in the gym, and in classrooms to ensure graduates are fully equipped for careers in football coaching, club development, performance analysis, and sport administration. Experienced coaches deliver the player development and coach education modules, providing opportunities to achieve coaching qualifications and gain real-world experience.Students benefit from premium facilities, including elite and general gyms, football pitches with full changing facilities and viewing stands, and participation in competitive SETU Carlow football teams. Graduates are prepared for a wide range of roles in coaching, sports management, and administration, as well as opportunities to progress to higher qualifications or specialized careers within football and broader sport industries.
