COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Sports Management and Coaching is a four-year honours degree that combines the study of coaching, sports science, and business management principles. The program is designed for students who are passionate about sport, whether playing, coaching, or pursuing careers in the management and administration of sports organisations. The course develops knowledge and skills across three core areas: coaching pedagogy, business and management of sport, and sports science. In the first year, students build foundational skills in coaching pedagogy, applied athletic development, sport physiology, sport management, IT, and accounting for sport. Year two develops expertise in sports marketing, economics, nutrition, strength and conditioning, and coach education, alongside injury prevention and recovery strategies. Year three focuses on people management, fitness testing, sponsorship, sports performance analysis, and provides opportunities for work placements, internships, and study abroad, allowing students to gain practical, real-world experience. The fourth year emphasizes strategy, governance, leadership, diversity and inclusion, coach development, periodisation, contemporary issues in sport, and the completion of a dissertation. Elective modules across the course allow students to specialise in areas such as adapted physical activity, sports psychology, performance analysis, and operations management. Classes are delivered across a variety of environments including classrooms, gyms, and sports pitches, ensuring students develop practical, applied skills alongside theoretical knowledge. Work placements, internships, and engagement with commercial and not-for-profit sporting organisations provide professional experience, networking opportunities, and a deeper understanding of industry operations. Graduates are equipped with coaching, analytical, and management skills, preparing them for careers in coaching, sports development, performance analysis, facility management, event management, and other roles across the sports industry. The program also offers pathways to further study or professional development, ensuring graduates are adaptable and highly employable in a wide range of sport and business sectors.
