COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in Applied Social Care is a four-year Level 8 program designed to prepare students for professional careers in social care while developing their critical thinking, ethical awareness, and practical skills. In Year 1, students build a foundation in professional social care theory and practice, psychology, sociology, social policy, communication, research skills, health and safety, and creative practice. Year 2 focuses on applying knowledge in real-world contexts through supervised professional practice, while deepening understanding of disability, ageing, community-based services, social cognition, legal studies, and wellbeing in social care. Year 3 develops more advanced skills in working with children, families, and alternative care settings, alongside research studies, mental health and neurodiversity, legal studies, and continued creative practice, supplemented by a second supervised professional placement. Year 4 emphasizes leadership, ethics, and global perspectives, with students completing research methods and a dissertation in social care practice. Advanced modules in social care practice, psychology, positive change, and management equip graduates to lead and innovate in the sector. Throughout the program, all subjects marked “M” are mandatory, ensuring comprehensive exposure to theory, practical skills, research, and professional development necessary for effective, ethical, and reflective social care practice across diverse settings. Graduates are prepared to work with vulnerable and marginalised populations, including children, families, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and those experiencing mental health challenges or social disadvantage.
