COURSE CURRICULUM

At South East Technological University, students entering the BA (Hons) Joint Honours Degree are introduced to a broad range of disciplines before selecting three subjects in Year 1, with only one subject chosen from each group. The subject groups include: Group 1 (English, Spanish Beginners, Spanish PLC), Group 2 (French, Law, Religious Studies, Geography Environment and Sustainability), Group 3 (Irish, Sociology), and Group 4 (Psychology, Theatre Studies, Politics and Society). Students choosing a language at Post-Leaving Certificate level must meet specific entry requirements. At the end of first year, students continue to graduation with two of their original three subjects, completing what is known as a Joint Honours Arts Degree, where both disciplines are equally weighted at Level 8.Years 2 and 3 focus on deepening knowledge and expertise in the two selected subjects. Students also have the option to enhance their qualification through a Study Abroad pathway. By successfully completing Years 1 and 2 in SETU Waterford, they may spend an additional year at an approved international partner institution before returning for their final year, graduating with a BA (Hons) International.The program follows a modular structure measured in ECTS credits. Each semester consists of 30 credits, with 60 credits per academic year, leading to a total of 180 ECTS over three years. Most modules are worth 5 credits and function as building blocks toward the final degree.A related pathway, the BA (Hons) Psychology (SE205), allows students to study Psychology as a Major subject, alongside two Minor subjects selected from Groups 1, 2, and 3, with greater credit weighting allocated to the Major discipline.
