COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Business in Sport Coaching and Business Management (GAA) at SETU Carlow is a three-year degree that equips students with skills in sports coaching, player development, and business management. The course is designed for anyone interested in sports, whether playing, coaching, or pursuing a career in sport administration. It combines practical coaching experience, academic study, and business knowledge to prepare graduates for careers in sports management, club development, games development, and coaching.In Year 1, students focus on foundational modules such as Introduction to Coaching Pedagogy, Player Development 1, Applied Anatomy and Sport Physiology, Coach Education 1, and core business and IT skills. Semester 2 continues with Player Development 2, Coach Education, applied sport physiology, and Foundations of Sport Management.Year 2 builds on these foundations with modules including Accounting for Sport, Coach Education 2, Player Development 3 and 4, Sports Marketing, Sports Economics, Finance for Sport, Injury Prevention and Recovery Strategies, GAA Club Development, and Strength and Conditioning. These modules combine coaching practice, sport science, and business and finance knowledge essential for managing sports clubs and teams.In Year 3, students take advanced and applied modules such as Sponsorship in Sport, Finance for Sport 2, People Management Skills in Sport, and Fitness Testing and Load Monitoring. Elective options include Work Placement, Sports Internship Project, Study Semester Abroad, Operations Management in Sport, Introduction to Data Analysis for Sport, Player Development 5, Sports Performance Analysis, Community Sport and Social Inclusion, and Coach Education 3. This final year emphasizes practical experience, industry engagement, and applied management skills to ensure graduates are prepared for professional careers in sport and coaching within the GAA framework or broader sports industry.Overall, the program uniquely combines GAA coaching and player development with academic and practical business management skills, supported by experienced GAA coaches and premium sporting facilities, providing a strong foundation for a career in sport.
