COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in Applied Social Care is structured over three years, providing students with a combination of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience essential for working with vulnerable and marginalised populations. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in social care theory and practice through mandatory modules such as Professional Social Care Theory and Practice, Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, Communications, Research and Study Skills, Health and Safety in Social Care Practice, Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Persons, Introduction to Social Policy, and Lifespan Development and Individual Differences, alongside Creative Skills 1. This first year ensures students develop core competencies in understanding individuals, families, and communities while preparing them for professional practice.In Year 2, the focus shifts to applied learning and specialisation. Mandatory modules include Supervised Professional Practice 1, Disability and Positive Ageing, Legal Studies 1, Psychology of Social Cognition, Community-Based Social Care Services, Sociological Perspectives on Contemporary Social Care Policy and Practice, and Health and Wellbeing in Social Care Practice. This year allows students to engage directly with professional environments, applying their knowledge in real-world contexts while understanding the complexities of social care policies and the needs of different client groups.Year 3 emphasises advanced practice and research skills, combining supervised placements with specialised study. Core modules include Supervised Professional Practice 2, Creative Skills 2, Children and Families, Legal Studies 2, Psychology of Mental Health and Neurodiversity, Social Research Studies, and Alternative to Home Care. Students consolidate their professional skills, reflect on practical experiences, and prepare to work independently or collaboratively in the social care sector. Across all three years, the program balances theoretical learning with hands-on experience, ensuring graduates are fully equipped to support, advocate for, and care for diverse populations in residential, community, and specialised social care settings.
