COURSE CURRICULUM
The Visual Art program is structured over several years to gradually develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills in art and design. In Year 1, students begin with the foundations of art and visual culture. They study subjects such as Art and Design: Themes and Contexts, Visual Studies, and Digital Media Design, which introduce them to important artistic concepts, creative thinking, and the historical and cultural background of art. Practical learning is an important part of this year, where students practice colour theory, drawing, and 3D design. They also participate in skills-based workshops and develop research skills through notebook studies and themed visual projects. Photography, video, and digital media are introduced to help students understand modern creative tools. All subjects in the first year are mandatory, ensuring that every student gains a strong foundation in artistic knowledge and techniques. In Year 2, the course expands to include more specialised and professional subjects. Students learn Video Editing, Art and the Moving Image, and Professional Practice in the Arts, which help them understand how art can be created, presented, and managed in professional settings. At this stage, students also begin to choose elective subjects, allowing them to focus on areas of personal interest. These electives include Painting Practices and Sculpture and Expanded Practices. This combination of mandatory and elective modules allows students to strengthen their technical abilities while exploring their preferred artistic medium.By Year 3, students focus more on contemporary art and professional development. They study subjects such as Themes in Contemporary Art and Culture, Media Arts, Entrepreneurship for Artists, and Collaborative Exhibition Practices. These modules help students understand how art interacts with society and how artists can build successful careers. Students also learn research methods and develop proposals for artistic projects. Elective modules such as painting or sculpture continue to allow deeper exploration of creative interests while preparing students for professional practice in the art world.
