COURSE CURRICULUM

This undergraduate course is a four-year honours degree, delivered over eight semesters, combining theoretical learning with extensive practical experience. Continuous assessment is held throughout the course alongside examinations at the end of each semester, ensuring that students develop a thorough understanding of computing principles, software development, and emerging technologies. The program is designed to prepare students for careers in a rapidly evolving digital environment, offering opportunities to gain real-world experience through Service Learning, Work Placement, or International Exchange (Erasmus) during the third year. Students have completed work experience in leading companies such as Microsoft, O2, ESB, Wells Fargo, Dotmobi, Datalex, and Intel, providing valuable industry insight and practical skills that complement academic learning. Throughout the course, students acquire expertise in creating software applications for mobile devices, cloud platforms, web development, and gaming, using modern programming tools and technologies. The curriculum emphasizes the integration of multimedia in software applications, the analysis and interpretation of complex data to solve real-world business problems, and the principles of cloud computing, including software, infrastructure, and platform considerations. Additionally, students gain knowledge in cybersecurity, enabling them to design secure systems resistant to malware, hacking, and other cyber threats. The course also prepares students for industry-recognised certifications in leading technologies, enhancing employability and professional credibility. On successful completion, graduates receive a QQI BSc (Honours) Degree in Computing at level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications. Graduates are well-equipped to enter roles in software development, cloud computing, data analytics, gaming, and enterprise IT, with the practical experience, technical expertise, and problem-solving skills necessary to contribute effectively to modern digital workplaces. The program provides a strong foundation for lifelong learning and professional development, ensuring that graduates can adapt to the fast-changing technological landscape while pursuing rewarding careers in the computing sector.
