COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Arts Honours in Human Resource Management (HRM) is a three-year undergraduate program, with the option to extend to four years by completing a credit-bearing work placement in the third year. The course is structured across six semesters, combining continuous assessment throughout the semester with formal examinations at the end of each semester, ensuring that students are consistently engaged and evaluated on both theoretical knowledge and practical understanding. The program is designed to provide a strong foundation in human resource management, equipping students with expertise in areas such as recruitment, training and development, performance management, employment law, and the strategic integration of HRM within broader business operations. Beyond technical HR skills, the course also develops key professional competencies including teamwork, communication, problem-solving, research, and critical thinking, preparing graduates to operate effectively in dynamic business environments. A notable feature of the program is the opportunity for students to participate in a work placement during year three, subject to availability. This placement allows students to gain real-world experience in human resource management, applying their academic knowledge in professional settings, developing practical skills, and enhancing their employability. Students who undertake the placement complete a four-year program, earning 240 ECTS credits, while those who do not follow the placement graduate after three years with the standard honours degree. Throughout the course, high-achieving students with an overall annual average of 70% or higher are recognised with a Dean’s Award, highlighting academic excellence. On successful completion of the program, graduates are awarded a QQI BA (Honours) Degree in HRM at level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications, ensuring recognition of the degree both nationally and internationally. This combination of academic rigour, practical experience, and professional development ensures that graduates are fully prepared for careers in human resource management across diverse organisations and industries.
