ABOUT UNIVERSITY
National College of Ireland (NCI) is a not-for-profit, state-aided higher education institution located in Dublin, Ireland. Founded in 1951 as the Catholic Workers College through a collaboration between the Jesuits and Irish trade unions, the institution initially focused on educating workers and trade union members. Over time, student numbers grew significantly, partnerships with trade unions and employer groups deepened, and the college evolved into the National College of Industrial Relations by 1966. It gained state recognition for its programmes in the 1970s and was rebranded as the National College of Ireland in 1998, reflecting its broader academic scope and national outreach. Today, NCI offers full-time and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in business, computing, psychology, and education, with accreditation from Quality and Qualifications Ireland for its major awards. The college relocated to a modern campus in Dublin’s IFSC area in the early 2000s, benefiting from strong transport links and comprehensive student facilities. Teaching is delivered both on campus and online. Continued expansion includes the acquisition and redevelopment of a nearby building at Spencer Dock, which opened in 2023, providing additional teaching spaces, study areas, and student services.
