COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSocSc in Social Science is a 90-credit postgraduate program that provides advanced study of social policy, rights, and contemporary social issues. It is designed to develop strong analytical, critical thinking, and research skills through a combination of core and specialised modules. Students engage with advanced social policy analysis, critical theory, and perspectives on social policy, with a strong emphasis on the themes of equality, inclusion, rights, recognition, and redistribution. The program includes applied learning through case studies, seminars, conferences, and workshops that focus on real-world policy challenges and the practical realisation of rights. A key component is the development of policy writing and influencing skills, preparing students to contribute effectively to policy debate and reform. Students also complete a substantial social policy research dissertation, which allows them to independently investigate a topic of interest in depth. The program offers specialised study in areas such as criminal justice, housing inequality, child and family policy, human trafficking, health and mental health policy, gender and social policy, and education inequalities. Overall, it provides a comprehensive understanding of social policy theory and practice, equipping graduates with the expertise needed for careers in research, policy analysis, advocacy, and public or social services.
