COURSE CURRICULUM

This MA program offers a broad and interdisciplinary choice of subjects across the humanities, social sciences, languages, media, history, music, and development studies, allowing students to tailor their studies to their academic interests and career goals. It includes areas such as ancient, medieval, and renaissance thought, anthropology, applied linguistics and intercultural studies, Chinese studies, and creative writing, alongside more specialised fields like comparative criminology and criminal justice, and international development. Students can also explore contemporary music practices, creative music technologies, and music, culture and practice, as well as critical and creative media and English literatures of engagement. Historical study options are extensive, covering European history, Irish and local history, medieval Irish studies, military history and strategic studies, and geography with a focus on spatial justice. The program also includes applied and professional areas such as leadership, management and defence studies, international peacebuilding, security and development practice, and TESOL and EMI for teaching English in international contexts. Language and cultural studies such as applied linguistics, intercultural studies, and Nua-Ghaeilge are also included. Overall, the program is designed to develop advanced analytical, research, and communication skills while encouraging critical engagement with global, historical, cultural, and social issues through a flexible and diverse curriculum.
