COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year at Maynooth University, students have access to a wide range of diverse and interdisciplinary courses across the arts, humanities, social sciences, and creative fields. These offerings include Anthropology, Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Studies, Chinese Studies, and Comparative Criminology and Criminal Justice, reflecting a strong emphasis on understanding culture, society, and justice. Students interested in creative arts can choose from Contemporary Music Practices, Creative Music Technologies, Creative Writing, Critical and Creative Media, and various music-related courses such as Music Composition, Music Culture and Practice, Musiology, and Performance and Musiology. The humanities are well represented with courses in English Literatures of Engagement, European History, Irish History, Local History, Medieval Irish Studies, and Military History and Strategic Studies, allowing students to explore historical contexts and narratives in depth. Language studies include German, Spanish and Latin American Studies, and Nua-Ghaeilge, offering opportunities to develop linguistic skills and cultural awareness. Geography is also a key area of study, with courses in Geography and Geography focusing on Spatial Justice, linking environmental and social issues.
