COURSE CURRICULUM

This group of academic programs offers a wide interdisciplinary range across humanities, social sciences, languages, history, geography, media, music, and international studies, allowing students to explore human society, culture, and global issues in depth. History-focused areas such as ancient, medieval and renaissance thought, European history, Irish history, local history, medieval Irish studies, and military history and strategic studies examine how societies, politics, and ideas have evolved over time. Social science disciplines including anthropology, geography, comparative criminology and criminal justice, and geography: spatial justice explore human behaviour, inequality, crime, and spatial relationships in society. International-facing programs such as international development, international peacebuilding, security and development practice, and leadership, management and defence studies focus on global challenges, governance, and conflict resolution. Language and communication fields including applied linguistics and intercultural studies, Chinese studies, Nua-Ghaeilge, and TESOL and EMI develop linguistic competence and cultural understanding. Creative and cultural subjects such as creative writing, critical and creative media, contemporary music practices, creative music technologies, and music, culture and practice foster artistic expression and media analysis. English: literatures of engagement and other humanities subjects deepen critical thinking and interpretation skills. Overall, these programs develop strong analytical, cultural, linguistic, and research abilities, preparing graduates for careers in education, media, public service, culture, and international organisations.
