COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year, students have access to a diverse range of subjects spanning humanities, social sciences, and creative arts. Anthropology offers insights into human societies and cultures, while Applied Linguistics and Intercultural Studies focus on language and communication across cultures. Chinese Studies provides an understanding of one of the world’s major cultures. Comparative Criminology and Criminal Justice explores legal systems and approaches to crime prevention. Music options include Contemporary Music Practices and Creative Music Technologies, emphasizing both practical skills and technical knowledge. Creative Writing and Critical and Creative Media develop literary and media analysis abilities, and English: Literatures of Engagement introduces socially conscious literature. History courses cover European History, Irish History, and Local History, with specialized topics such as Medieval Irish Studies and Military History and Strategic Studies. Geography offers modules including Spatial Justice, which focuses on social equity in geographical contexts. International Development and International Peacebuilding, Security and Development Practice examine global challenges and conflict resolution. Language studies include German, Spanish and Latin American Studies, and Nua-Ghaeilge (Irish language). Leadership, Management & Defence Studies introduces students to organizational and strategic thinking. Music Composition, Music, Culture and Practice, Musicology, and Performance & Musicology provide theoretical and practical training in music. This wide variety allows students to build a broad academic foundation while pursuing their individual interests, encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and cultural awareness. The interdisciplinary approach prepares students for diverse academic pursuits and career opportunities by developing skills relevant to many fields.
