COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Early Childhood Teaching and Learning program is structured over four years to support the progressive development of knowledge, skills, and professional practice in early childhood education. In first year, students are introduced to key foundations such as child psychology, curriculum and pedagogy, social and legal studies, and health and wellbeing, alongside reflective practice and their first professional placement. In second year, the focus shifts to integrating theory with practice, exploring learning and development from birth to six years, play, relationships with children and families, and the design of learning environments, supported by further professional experience. In third year, students develop a deeper understanding of early childhood in broader contexts, studying topics such as social justice, diversity, creativity, community, and curriculum implementation, while continuing reflective practice and placement. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics including leadership, transitions, assessment, and challenges in early childhood education, as well as literacy, numeracy, and inquiry-based learning. Reflective practice continues to play a central role, alongside the final professional placement. Overall, the program combines theoretical learning with practical experience each year, preparing students to become skilled, reflective, and effective early childhood educators.
