COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Criminology program is structured over three years with a strong focus on building expertise in the study of crime, criminal behaviour, and society’s response to it. In first year, students complete 30 credits of Criminology across specified groups, alongside up to two additional subjects chosen from other subject areas, allowing them to broaden their academic interests. This stage introduces key concepts and provides a foundation in understanding crime from both theoretical and practical perspectives. In second year, students deepen their knowledge by studying at least 50 credits of Criminology, along with an optional 10 credit elective, enabling some flexibility in their studies. Students who also take at least 15 credits of Law in first year and successfully pass may be eligible to transfer into second year of either the BCL Law and Criminology or the LLB program, providing alternative academic pathways. In third year, students focus entirely on Criminology, completing 60 credits in the subject. This allows for advanced study and specialisation in areas of interest within criminology. Overall, the program develops strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, preparing graduates for careers in criminal justice, policy, and related fields.
