COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Childhood Studies program is structured around a set of mandatory modules designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge, research ability, and professional skills in the field of childhood development and early learning. The program consists of several modules that together total 90 ECTS credits, combining theoretical learning, practical experience, and independent research. Core modules include Critical Perspectives on Child and Youth Development, which explores key theories and contemporary perspectives on the growth and development of children and young people, and Research Methodologies and Design, which develops students’ ability to design, conduct, and evaluate academic research. The module Curricular and Pedagogical Approaches in Early Learning and Care focuses on teaching strategies, curriculum development, and educational practices used in early childhood settings. Governance and Professional Leadership in Child and Adolescent Practice examines policy, leadership, and professional responsibilities involved in supporting children and families. Contemporary Discourses in Early Learning and Care explores current debates, policies, and issues influencing early childhood education and care. The program also includes a Practicum module worth 10 ECTS, which allows students to gain practical experience and apply their knowledge in professional environments. A major component of the program is the Dissertation, worth 30 ECTS, where students conduct independent research on a relevant topic with the guidance of an academic supervisor, contributing to their overall professional and academic development.
