COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Addiction Studies program is structured around a comprehensive module system designed to develop advanced academic knowledge and professional skills in addiction counselling and recovery support. The program consists of eleven modules, each carrying European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) credits, with a total requirement of 90 ECTS to complete the degree within one academic year. Core modules include Understanding Addiction, Skills and Competencies in Addiction Counselling, Contemporary Evidence Based Interventions in Addiction Recovery, Research Methodologies and Design, Community Reinforcement Approach and Family Aspects in Addiction, and Comorbidity and Trauma Informed Care. Students are also required to select two elective modules, one worth 5 ECTS and one worth 10 ECTS. The first elective allows students to choose between The Recovery Model in Addiction or Knowing Self, while the second elective offers options such as Professional Placement, Behavioural and Process Addictions, Substance Use Disorders and the Recovery Model, Gambling Addiction and the Recovery Model, or Neuropharmacological Aspects of Substance Use Disorders. Learners who complete 60 ECTS without finishing the dissertation may exit the program with a Postgraduate Diploma in Addiction Studies. Assessment methods are designed to support different learning styles and include essays, learning journals, examinations, reflective exercises, and practical projects. A research-based dissertation, supported by an academic supervisor, forms a central component of the program.
