COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Addiction Recovery program consists of nine modules that together total 90 ECTS credits and are typically completed over one academic year. Each module focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, and professional competencies required for effective practice in addiction recovery and counselling. The course combines both theoretical understanding and practical training to help students become capable practitioners in the field. Core modules include Understanding Addiction, which introduces the key concepts and causes of addictive behaviour, and Skills and Competencies in Addiction Counselling, which focuses on developing counselling abilities. Students also study Contemporary Evidence-Based Interventions in Addiction Recovery and Research Methodologies and Design, which help them understand current treatment approaches and research practices. Other modules such as Community Reinforcement Approach and Family Aspects in Addiction, Comorbidity and Trauma Informed Care, and The Recovery Model in Addiction explore the social, psychological, and health-related factors involved in addiction and recovery. Students must also choose one elective module from options including Behavioural and Process Addictions, Substance Use Disorders and the Recovery Model, Gambling Addiction and the Recovery Model, or Neuropharmacological Aspects of Substance Use Disorders. The program concludes with a dissertation worth 30 ECTS credits, where students conduct independent research. Students who complete 60 ECTS but do not finish the dissertation may exit with a Postgraduate Diploma in Addiction Counselling.
