COURSE CURRICULUM

The Certificate in Art and Design program is structured across two semesters and provides students with a balanced combination of practical studio work, creative exploration, and theoretical understanding of design. In the first semester, students begin with Creative Studio Projects 1, where they explore different design ideas and develop their creativity through hands-on assignments. They also study 2D Freehand Drawing Techniques, which helps them improve their observational drawing skills, visual expression, and understanding of shapes, lines, and composition. Digital Design Tools 1 introduces students to important digital software used in modern design, allowing them to create and edit digital artwork while becoming familiar with professional design technologies. In addition, the Design Principles module teaches the fundamental concepts of design such as balance, proportion, colour theory, layout, and visual communication. In the second semester, students continue their development through Creative Studio Projects 2, which encourages more advanced experimentation and creative problem solving. The 3D Freehand Drawing Techniques module helps students understand depth, form, and perspective through three-dimensional drawing methods. Digital Design Tools 2 builds on earlier digital skills by introducing more advanced techniques and creative applications. Finally, the Visual Culture and Theory module explores the cultural, historical, and social influences on art and design, helping students develop critical thinking and a deeper understanding of visual creativity.
