COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in Graphic Communication Design program is structured over three years and focuses on developing creative, technical, and professional skills in visual communication. In Year One, students build a strong foundation in graphic design through modules such as Communication Design, Typography, Design Graphics, and Illustration. These subjects help students understand the basic principles of layout, visual storytelling, and image creation. Students also study Advertising and Editorial Photography and Contextual Studies for Visual Communication, which introduce them to the cultural and theoretical aspects of design and media. Design Culture and Theory further strengthens their understanding of how design operates in society. In Year Two, students expand their creative and technical knowledge with more advanced modules. Communication Design continues to develop their design thinking and problem-solving abilities, while Typography 2 and Web Design help students improve their digital and typographic skills. Modules such as Interaction Design, Photography and Video, Design Futures, and Brand and Marketing introduce modern design practices and industry trends. Entrepreneurship and Business also help students understand the commercial side of the creative industry. In Year Three, students focus on advanced design work and independent projects. They complete modules such as Communication Design 5, Advanced Web Design, and Motion Graphics while working on a Thesis and a Major Project. The program concludes with Professional Practice and Portfolio development to prepare students for careers in the design industry.
