COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in Film, TV and Screen Media Production program is structured over three years to gradually develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills in screen media production. In Year One, students are introduced to the fundamentals of filmmaking and television production. Modules such as Production and Direction for Screen, Writing for Screen, and TV Studio Principles help students understand the basics of storytelling and studio production. Students also study Film and TV History and Screen Culture and Theory to gain knowledge of the cultural and historical context of screen media. Practical skills are developed through modules like Introduction to Cinematography, Sound Recording and Production, Introduction to Post-Production Editing, and Interactive Storytelling. In Year Two, students build on these skills with more advanced training in Visual Storytelling and Direction, Screen Production Management, TV Studio Practice, and Applied Industry Skills and Professional Practice. They also continue developing technical abilities through Advanced Cinematography, Sound Recording and Production, and Editing and Post-Production, with optional modules such as Screenwriting or Visual Effects for Screen. In Year Three, students focus on professional-level work and independent projects. They complete a Dissertation by Practice while studying Advanced TV Studio, Marketing, Distribution and Exhibition, and Research, Ethics and Audience. A range of elective modules such as Advanced Screenwriting, Cinematography for Industry, Visual Effects, and Production Design allows students to specialise further.
