COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in Audio and Music Technology curriculum is designed to develop students’ knowledge and practical skills in music production, sound engineering, and audio technology over three years of study. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of music technology, including drum programming, samplers, and virtual instruments, while learning to record, edit, and mix audio using computer-based software. They are trained in industry-standard digital audio workstations such as Pro Tools and Logic Pro, and gain an understanding of recording studio operations, microphone techniques, and mixing processes. Students also study music theory, aural training, and the structure of different music styles while learning about the wider music industry and live sound reinforcement for performances. In the second year, the program focuses on advanced production skills, sound design, and professional recording techniques, including working with large ensembles and managing studio environments. Students also learn about live performance technologies, system engineering for sound reinforcement, and the historical development of music production. In the final year, students complete a dissertation project and further develop advanced music production skills, studio design knowledge, and professional practice. Additional modules include sound design for games, audio post-production for film and television, and live event and streaming technologies, preparing graduates for careers in audio production and the music industry.
