COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in Animation program is structured over three years and is designed to provide students with a balanced combination of creative development, technical skills, and professional knowledge required in the animation industry. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of animation through subjects such as animation history, research and critical analysis, and life drawing. They begin developing their creative abilities through courses in 2D animation, 3D animation, concept art, experimental animation, and storyboarding and layout. Portfolio development is also an important focus during this stage, helping students build their creative identity. In the second year, the program expands to more advanced techniques and industry-related knowledge. Students study areas such as 3D animation, compositing and effects, texturing, unwrapping and shading, and rigging and facial animation. They also explore storytelling, film and drama movement, visual culture and theory, and business for animation, which helps them understand both the creative and commercial sides of the industry. In the final year, students concentrate on professional practice and specialization. Courses include audio production, videogame tools and environments, sculpting and modelling, law for animation, and studio etiquette and professional practice. Students also complete a dissertation or practice-based dissertation, allowing them to demonstrate their research, creative thinking, and practical animation skills.
