COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Finance is a comprehensive one-year program designed to provide a strong foundation and advanced expertise in finance, ideal for graduates in business, economics, or related disciplines. The first semester focuses on building core knowledge through five foundational modules: Economics for Finance, Quantitative Methods and Econometrics, Corporate Finance and Valuation, Financial Markets and Derivatives, and Financial Statement Analysis and Ethics. In the second semester, students advance through four key modules: Asset Pricing, Fixed Income Securities, Financial Risk Management, and Portfolio Theory. An additional optional module allows students to tailor their studies, choosing from Financial Econometrics, Financial Technology & Innovation, or Sustainable Finance. Alongside coursework, students complete a dissertation, enabling them to explore a specific finance topic in depth. Emphasis is placed on practical skills, with training in tools such as Python and access to leading finance databases like Bloomberg, Refinitiv Eikon, FAME, and MarketLine. Students can participate in international competitions organized by CME Group, Rotman, and the CFA Institute, gaining hands-on experience in trading, portfolio management, and valuation. The program also includes AmplifyMe trading workshops, offering the opportunity to earn a Level 4 Diploma in Applied Finance and acquire key investment banking skills. Outside the classroom, students may engage with the DCU Investment Society, which bridges academic and professional finance sectors. The society hosts events and simulations led by global financial institutions and offers experience managing a Student Investment Fund. Overall, the MSc in Finance combines academic depth, practical training, and professional development, preparing graduates for successful careers across finance sectors such as investment banking, asset management, private equity, and risk management.
