COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc in Data Science offers a comprehensive and multidisciplinary education combining computer science, mathematics, and statistical analysis. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational concepts in programming, computer systems, databases, and mathematics. Modules such as Computer Programming I and II, Data Science and Databases, and Introduction to R equip students with essential coding skills, while Linear Mathematics, Probability, and Calculus provide the mathematical grounding necessary for data analysis and modelling.In the second year, students advance their technical skills with modules in Object-Oriented Programming, Data Warehousing, and Machine Learning. They also study Data Processing and Visualisation, Programming for Data Analysis, and further their mathematical understanding through Statistics and Calculus of Several Variables. These modules prepare students to tackle real-world data problems using both algorithmic thinking and practical coding tools.The third year offers students the opportunity to gain valuable industry experience through an eight-month paid INTRA work placement. They may also choose to study abroad for a semester. Optional modules include Data Exploration Using Graph Theory, Application Domains, Software Engineering, and Search Technologies, providing flexibility and specialization in areas of interest.In the final year, students focus on advanced topics and practical application. Core modules include Advanced Machine Learning, Data at Speed and Scale, Natural Language Technologies, and Building Complex Computational Models. The Application Domains modules continue, linking technical skills to specific industries or challenges. A major component of the final year is the Final Year Project, which allows students to apply their knowledge to a complex, independent research or development task.Throughout the program, students develop a unique blend of analytical, computational, and business-aware skills. This prepares them for careers in data science, analytics, artificial intelligence, and related fields where data-driven decision-making is key to success.
