COURSE CURRICULUM

The Analytical Science degree is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary program designed to develop expertise in chemical, biochemical, and microbiological analysis. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in core scientific disciplines, including chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics, while also participating in laboratory modules that provide essential hands-on experience. This integrated approach sets the stage for more advanced learning in subsequent years.In the second year, the focus expands to include biomolecules, metabolism, microbiology, genetics, and more complex areas of chemistry such as spectroscopy, kinetics, thermodynamics, and organic and inorganic chemistry. Students continue to develop their practical skills through extensive lab work and workshops in spectroscopic and biochemical techniques. A strong emphasis is placed on visualising and validating scientific data, alongside mathematical analysis.By the third year, the course becomes more specialized, introducing students to areas such as environmental monitoring, forensic biology, physiological systems, and separation techniques. Students refine their practical expertise through advanced laboratory modules and explore critical topics like analytical spectroscopy and regulatory data analysis. A key feature of this year is the INTRA placement, where students gain valuable industry or research experience. Students then choose between a Chemistry or Biology pathway, allowing for deeper study in areas like organometallics, polymer chemistry, or advanced cell biology.In the final year, students take advanced modules in spectroscopy, genetic and pharmaceutical analysis, and biopharmaceutical and immunological analysis. The Chemistry and Biology pathways offer tailored options, including interfacial chemistry, analytical applications, industrial bioprocessing, and gene expression. Both pathways require a literature survey and an independent research project, enabling students to apply their skills in a focused area of interest. Overall, the course provides a strong theoretical foundation, extensive lab experience, and real-world application, preparing graduates for careers in scientific research, environmental monitoring, healthcare, biotechnology, or pharmaceuticals.
