COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Applied Psychology includes a wide-ranging curriculum structured across multiple semesters, offering learners both theoretical depth and practical exposure to essential areas of psychology. In Semester One, students engage with core research skills through Advanced Quantitative Research Methods and Analysis and Advanced Qualitative Research Methods and Analysis, equipping them with robust methodological tools. Addiction and Rehabilitation explores psychological approaches to substance use and recovery, while Psychometrics and Psychometric Testing introduces the principles of psychological measurement and assessment. Life Transitions and Interventions, along with Professional Issues and Ethics in Applied Psychology, are delivered across Semester One and Two, focusing on the psychological challenges individuals face through life changes and the professional and ethical standards essential in practice.Semester Two introduces Applied Neuroscience, offering insights into the biological basis of behaviour, and Motivation, Leadership, and Positive Psychology, which examines how psychological principles can be used to enhance individual and group functioning. Public and Community Health covers mental health promotion, public wellbeing, and community-based interventions. The Psychological Practitioner and the Therapeutic Relationship explores the dynamics of client-practitioner interactions and their impact on psychological outcomes.A key component of the program is the capstone element, which spans across all semesters. Students choose between Capstone 1, a Research Placement, and Capstone 2, a Major Dissertation. The Research Placement provides practical experience in an applied setting, while the Dissertation allows for independent academic research on a topic of interest. Both pathways carry significant weight (30 ECTS) and enable students to consolidate their learning and demonstrate their capability in applied psychological research and practice.Together, these modules offer a comprehensive, interdisciplinary education in applied psychology, preparing graduates to work in diverse settings and equipping them with the necessary skills to assess, intervene, and evaluate psychological needs professionally and ethically.
