COURSE CURRICULUM

The Higher Diploma in Arts in Psychology is structured over two years and offers a comprehensive introduction to the core areas of psychology, preparing students for further study or a professional career in the field. In Year 1, students begin with History and Schools in Psychology, which explores the evolution of psychological thought and foundational theories. Research Technique and Analysis introduces students to essential research methods and statistical tools used in psychological investigations. Foundations in Developmental and Social Psychology examines human development across the lifespan and the influence of social contexts on behavior. Ethical Research Methods and Design focuses on conducting responsible and ethically sound research. Cognitive Psychology explores mental processes such as memory, attention, language, and problem-solving, while Behaviour Analysis looks at learning principles and how behavior is shaped by environmental factors.In Year 2, students deepen their understanding of more advanced psychological topics. Personality and Individual Differences investigates theories of personality and the factors that make individuals unique. Psychological Disorders introduces the classification, causes, and treatment of various mental health conditions. Human Performance looks at the psychological principles underlying physical and cognitive performance in everyday and applied settings. Health Psychology examines how psychological, social, and biological factors affect health and illness. Biopsychology explores the relationship between the brain, nervous system, and behavior, offering insights into how physiological processes influence mental states. Advanced Developmental and Social Psychology builds on earlier learning by delving deeper into contemporary theories and research in these domains. The final component of the program is the Research Project, where students independently design and conduct a psychological study, applying the knowledge and skills gained throughout the course.Together, these modules provide a solid academic and practical foundation in psychology, allowing graduates to progress to postgraduate training and eventually pursue careers in various psychological disciplines.
