COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Computing (Data Analytics & Big Data) is a four-year program designed to equip students with both core computing skills and specialised knowledge in data analytics and big data technologies. In Year 1, students are introduced to the fundamental areas of computing, including Computer Architecture, Fundamentals of Information Systems, and ICT Essentials. Core technical competencies are developed through modules like Programming Fundamentals, Logic and Problem Solving, Mathematics and Statistics for Computing, and introductory topics such as Cloud Computing and Web Development. These modules lay a strong foundation for advanced study and practical application.Year 2 builds on this base by introducing more complex subjects such as Algorithms and Data Structures, Object-Oriented Programming, Operating Systems, and Database Systems. Students also develop practical skills through modules like Web Development, Software Engineering, Data Communications and Networks, and IT Project Management, preparing them for real-world problem-solving and system development tasks.In Year 3, students continue to advance their technical expertise while gaining practical industry experience through a work placement or project. Academic modules include Advanced Web Development, Systems Analysis and Design, and Foundations in Data Science, offering exposure to current data practices and the analytical tools used in industry today.Year 4 focuses on high-demand, specialised topics essential in the evolving field of data and technology. Modules such as Big Data: Achieving Scale, Cyber Security, and Data Mining & Big Data Analytics provide in-depth knowledge of scalable data systems, security protocols, and data analysis techniques. The final year also includes a capstone project where students apply their cumulative learning to a practical or research-based challenge.Overall, the program provides a balance of theoretical grounding, technical skill development, and practical experience. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in data analytics, software development, cybersecurity, and other technology-focused roles across a range of industries.
