COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) in Computing (Data Analytics & Big Data) is a four-year program designed to equip students with a strong foundation in computing while providing specialised knowledge in data analytics and big data technologies. In Year 1, students develop essential skills through modules such as Computer Architecture, Fundamentals of Information Systems, ICT Essentials, and Introduction to Cloud Computing. Core technical skills are built with modules like Programming Fundamentals, Logic and Problem Solving, Mathematics and Statistics for Computing, and Introduction to Web Development, laying the groundwork for more advanced study.Year 2 deepens students' technical competencies with modules such as Algorithms and Data Structures, Database Systems, Object-Oriented Programming, and Operating Systems. Students also explore Data Communications and Networks and gain practical skills in IT Project Management, Software Engineering, and continued development in Web Development. These modules enhance analytical thinking, problem-solving, and software development abilities.A key feature of the program is the inclusion of a work placement in Year 3, giving students real-world industry experience and helping them apply theoretical knowledge in practical environments. Alongside the placement, students study Advanced Web Development, Systems Analysis & Design, and Foundations in Data Science, ensuring they gain practical and analytical experience in handling data-driven technologies.In the final year, students focus on high-level topics critical to the evolving tech landscape. Modules include Big Data: Achieving Scale, Cyber Security, and Data Mining & Big Data Analytics. These are complemented by a final project where students demonstrate their learning through independent research and development work.Overall, the program offers a comprehensive blend of core computing knowledge, practical experience, and specialised expertise in data analytics. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in software development, data analysis, cybersecurity, and cloud computing, with a strong emphasis on real-world skills and future-ready technologies.
