COURSE CURRICULUM
The Water Management MSc program is designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in the physical, chemical, and ecological aspects of water science, preparing them for professional, research, and managerial roles in water management, environmental protection, and public health. The program covers water systems across temperate, tropical, and semi-arid zones, emphasizing the processes and interactions within the hydrological cycle, including surface water, groundwater, and wetlands. In the first year, students gain a solid foundation through courses in general hydrobiology, mathematical methods in hydrobiology, hydrology and geography, applied hydrobiology, water chemistry, running water and standing water ecology, wetland ecology, water management, aquatic toxicology, and paleo hydrobiology. These subjects provide both theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of aquatic ecosystems, ecological dynamics, water chemistry, and environmental influences on water quality. In the second year, the focus shifts to applied skills and integration of knowledge through courses in water quality monitoring, European water regulations, nature conservation, and field practice, culminating in a thesis project that allows students to conduct independent research on a specific water management problem. Students acquire practical experience with modern techniques for monitoring, assessing, and modeling water systems, as well as understanding environmental policies and legal frameworks at local, national, and European levels. The program emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary approaches, equipping graduates to develop sustainable solutions for water resource management, pollution control, ecological restoration, and ecosystem conservation. By combining theoretical instruction with fieldwork and research, graduates are prepared to pursue careers in governmental agencies, international organizations, environmental consultancies, and research institutions, or to continue their studies in doctoral programs, addressing complex water-related challenges in the context of climate change, urbanization, and ecosystem sustainability.
