COURSE CURRICULUM

Year one of the MSc in Geography program focuses on building a strong foundation in geosciences, environmental science, and spatial analysis. Students study novelties in the methodology of geosciences, gaining advanced research and analytical skills, and explore project management and R&D policy to understand how research initiatives are organized and evaluated. Environmental informatics and the environmental application of GIS equip students with essential technical skills for collecting, processing, and visualizing spatial and environmental data. Political geography and globalization are covered alongside a seminar, helping students understand how global political and economic processes shape spatial development. Courses in landscape analysis, regional and spatial development in practice, environmental systems, regional and spatial development theory, space and society, and applied geomorphology provide a comprehensive understanding of environmental processes, human-environment interactions, and the principles of landscape and regional management.In year two, students focus on applied and practical aspects of their training. Natural and anthropogenic hazards are studied to develop skills in hazard assessment and risk management. Field trips allow students to gain hands-on experience in environmental observation, data collection, and analysis in real-world settings. Project work and professional practice provide opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge in practical, professional contexts, preparing students for careers in environmental consulting, government agencies, energy companies, or research institutions. The program culminates in the thesis, where students conduct independent research, applying advanced geographic and environmental methods to a specialized topic of interest. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills while gaining proficiency in environmental informatics, GIS applications, and spatial data analysis. By completing this curriculum, graduates are equipped to contribute effectively to environmental assessment, landscape and regional development, and sustainable resource management, and are also prepared to pursue further studies at the doctoral level.
