COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemical Engineering MSc program at the University of Debrecen is designed to provide students with a comprehensive and multidisciplinary education that combines theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and specialized expertise. The curriculum is structured into subject groups covering Economy and Management, Chemical Industry Knowledge, Energetics and Transport Processes, Basic Knowledge, Organic and Biochemical Sciences, Physical Chemistry and Separation Techniques, as well as specialized tracks in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Petrochemical and Plastic Industries. Each subject group is coordinated by experts in the field, ensuring both academic rigor and practical relevance.In the Economy and Management group, students study subjects such as Advanced Microeconomics, Management, Advanced Quality Management, Engineering Communication, Intellectual Property Law, and Engineering Informatics. These courses provide foundational knowledge in economic analysis, organizational management, legal frameworks, and technical communication, equipping students with skills essential for managing chemical engineering projects effectively.The Chemical Industry Knowledge group focuses on Industrial Instrumentation and Automation, Safety and Health Prevention, Industrial Technologies, and Pilot Plant operations, giving students hands-on experience in chemical process control, workplace safety, and industrial production. In parallel, the Energetics and Transport Processes group covers Energetics in the Chemical Industry and Transport Processes I and II, teaching students to analyze and optimize energy use and material flows within chemical processes.The Basic Knowledge group includes Differential Equations, Engineering Physics, and Environmental Management, providing essential scientific and analytical foundations. The Organic and Biochemical Sciences group covers Bioprocess Engineering, Organic Synthesis, Organic Chemistry Practice, and Biochemistry, preparing students for work in both research and applied chemical processes. The Physical Chemistry and Separation Techniques group focuses on Downstream Processing, Physical Chemistry Applications, and Separation Techniques, giving practical skills in essential laboratory and industrial methods.Specializations in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Petrochemical and Plastic Industries allow students to gain deeper expertise in applied chemical processes, drug design, plastics processing, and material science. Optional courses, internships, and a two-part MSc thesis provide practical experience, research opportunities, and industry exposure. The curriculum totals 120 credits, combining lectures, seminars, laboratory practice, and fieldwork to ensure that graduates are fully prepared for professional roles in chemical engineering, research, and industry.
