COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Biology program at the University of Debrecen offers an advanced and comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for research and professional work in genetics, ecology, evolutionary biology, zoology, and related fields. In the first year, students acquire foundational knowledge in biomathematics, bioinformatics, genetics, and biophysics, alongside practical skills in structural biology, biological chemistry, and measurement techniques. They also study plant biology, zoology, ethology, ecology, and environmental protection, which provides them with a broad understanding of living systems and their interactions with the environment. Courses in scientific communication ensure that students can effectively convey their research findings in both written and oral forms.In the second year, the program focuses on more specialized and advanced topics, such as cell biology, molecular and synthetic biology, regulatory biology, physiology, immunology, and evolutionary biology. Students also gain practical experience in microbial biotechnology and develop advanced skills in data processing, analysis, and machine learning, equipping them to handle large datasets and apply computational tools to biological problems. A core component of the program is the thesis, where students conduct independent research projects under the guidance of experienced faculty, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge and laboratory skills to real-world biological questions.Graduates of the program are prepared for careers in research institutions, universities, environmental and conservation agencies, biotechnology, and related industries.
