COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s program in Graphic Design at Budapest Metropolitan University is structured to guide students through a progressive creative journey that blends technical mastery, conceptual thinking, and personal artistic development. In the first semester, students build strong foundations through intensive work in typography, book design, illustration, infographics, packaging design, image identity, and branding, gaining a comprehensive overview of contemporary visual communication while refining their design sensibilities. The second semester allows students to move into their chosen specialization, where they deepen their knowledge either across all surfaces of graphic design or within graphic art and illustration, focusing on developing a distinct visual approach and professional direction. During the third semester, learning shifts toward complex and integrated design processes, supported by experimental design tasks in both specializations that encourage innovation, critical thinking, and creative risk-taking. These projects help students connect theory with practice while exploring new methods, materials, and visual narratives. In the fourth semester, the emphasis is placed on research-driven design, where instructors guide students in creating complex visual messages informed by conceptual investigation and professional standards. This final phase also supports the development of the myBRAND portfolio and diploma project, enabling students to present a cohesive body of work that reflects their creative identity, technical competence, and strategic design thinking. Throughout the program, students benefit from close mentorship, collaborative studio work, and an open creative atmosphere that nurtures individuality while reinforcing professional discipline.
