COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fashion and Textile Design program at Budapest Metropolitan University is structured to gradually develop students from experimental creators into confident professional designers through a practice-based, concept-driven curriculum. In the first year, students explore experimental fashion and textile design through fine art and design approaches, encouraging playful creativity and hands-on discovery. They engage in diverse textile and pattern-making experiments while learning both traditional and experimental fashion techniques, including fashion accessory design and creative tailoring supported by OPTITEX software. A strong emphasis is placed on problem-solving design processes, helping students translate ideas into tangible outcomes while building their own individual fashion capsule collections. This foundational year supports personal artistic development alongside technical skill-building, allowing students to explore materials, silhouettes, and visual narratives in a structured yet creative environment. In the second year, the focus shifts toward professional practice and conceptual refinement. Students develop complete fashion and textile collection concepts, participate in real-world project situations, and strengthen interdisciplinary design thinking through collaborative and cross-field projects. This stage encourages strategic design decisions, research-based concept development, and industry-oriented workflows. The program culminates in a diploma project, where students integrate creative vision, technical knowledge, and professional presentation into a cohesive final collection. Throughout both years, learners are guided to develop originality, innovation, and critical awareness, preparing them to respond creatively to contemporary challenges in fashion and textiles while building a strong portfolio that reflects their individual design identity.
