COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graphic Design program at Budapest Metropolitan University is carefully structured to build students’ creative, technical, and professional competencies over three progressive years of study. In the first year, students focus on developing both manual and computer-based skills while learning traditional design procedures alongside the latest graphic technologies. During this foundational stage, they work on illustrations, book covers, artistic posters, logos, pictograms, and visual identity projects, gaining essential experience in visual communication and design fundamentals. The second year advances into more specialised areas such as book and magazine design, typography tools, and the effective combination of fonts and imagery. Students also explore packaging design, branding, and corporate identity, while engaging with contemporary themes including sustainability, bio-design, and eco-conscious approaches to graphic design. This phase encourages deeper conceptual thinking and helps students understand how design can respond responsibly to social and environmental challenges. In the third year, learning becomes more integrated and professionally oriented, with a strong focus on complex design projects and digital applications. Students work on interactive graphics for modern platforms, responsive web design, mobile applications, and UI and UX design, gaining insight into user-centred digital experiences. The final stage also includes development of a personal myBRAND portfolio and completion of diploma work, allowing students to showcase their creative identity and technical expertise. Across all three years, the program combines hands-on practice with theoretical understanding, supporting experimentation while strengthening industry-relevant skills. By the end of the course, students are equipped to manage comprehensive design projects, adapt to evolving digital environments, and present a strong professional portfolio, preparing them for careers in contemporary graphic design or further academic study.
