COURSE CURRICULUM

The Environmental Design Bachelor of Arts program at Budapest Metropolitan University is structured to gradually build students’ creative, technical, and professional abilities over three years of focused study. In the first year, students are introduced to forms, spaces, and materials through practical foundation courses that emphasise experimentation, exploration, and research. This stage helps learners develop essential design skills while gaining confidence in creative thinking and problem solving, preparing them to handle basic professional tasks. The second year moves into more specialised practical training, with a strong focus on interior space, furniture, and architectural design. These studio-based courses are supported by complementary subjects from related fields each semester, allowing students to gain broader knowledge and a deeper understanding of how different disciplines connect within environmental and interior design. By this stage, students begin refining their personal design approach while strengthening technical competence and conceptual clarity. In the third year, learning becomes more integrated and advanced, centred around one main complex design project supported by co-related practical subjects. These courses extend design development through deeper engagement with technical and theoretical aspects of art and design, alongside up-to-date computing and industry-relevant tools. This final phase encourages students to combine creativity with structured thinking, applying accumulated knowledge to comprehensive design solutions. Across all three years, the program balances hands-on studio work with theoretical learning, enabling students to understand spatial experience, materials, and human interaction with environments. The progressive structure ensures that graduates leave with a strong foundation in interior and environmental design, practical experience, and the ability to respond thoughtfully to real-world spatial challenges, making them well prepared for professional practice or further academic development.
