ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Budapest Metropolitan University is an accredited private higher education institution located in Budapest, Hungary, established in 2000 and beginning teaching activities in 2001. Initially operating as the Budapest College of Communication and Business, the institution offered bachelor’s programmes in business communication, international communication, journalism, European public service and business administration. It was also accredited as an adult education institute in 2003 and developed strong links with industry, including training television journalists in cooperation with Hungarian Public Television. The university built a reputation for language education, operating as an official EURO, ITK-Origo and TOEIC examination centre, and offering business and specialist language courses. Its campus, situated in a suburb of Budapest, underwent major renovations, with a new EU-supported building completed in 2005. Over time, the institution expanded its academic scope to include vocational, postgraduate and corporate training programmes, as well as a bilingual vocational secondary school. Following its first graduation ceremony in 2005, the university adopted the Bologna process and restructured its programmes to meet new Hungarian accreditation standards. Academic focus areas include communication and media studies, business, economics, marketing, tourism, hospitality, public service, and applied and media arts. In 2009, the integration of the Heller Farkas College of Tourism and the establishment of an Institute of Visual Arts further strengthened its academic portfolio.
