COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Software Development programme is designed to prepare students for careers in modern web and mobile application development by developing practical and professional skills across front-end, back-end, and mobile technologies. Students gain knowledge of agile and continuous software engineering practices, software design principles, design patterns, and real-world software implementation. The programme covers Front-end Application Development, where students learn HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Angular, and React to create modern and functional websites, as well as Back-end Application Development, which focuses on developing reliable, scalable, fast, and robust web application back-ends. Mobile Application Development provides practical experience in designing, implementing, and testing Android applications using Java and the Android SDK. Students also study Human-Computer Interaction and User Experience to understand usability, interface design, and the development of effective web and mobile applications. Continuous and Agile Software Engineering develops skills in agile processes, software quality management, continuous integration, deployment, and delivery. The programme has a strong industry focus through the Industrial Group Project, where students work in teams on realistic software projects provided by companies, allowing them to apply their knowledge to real-world problems. Students also complete Research Skills and Dissertation Preparation before undertaking an individual Dissertation involving the development of a software solution to a real problem. In addition, students choose one optional module from Advanced Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Contemporary Issues in ICT, DevOps Engineering, or Information Security Engineering. These options allow students to specialize in areas such as advanced software development, cloud-native applications, emerging ICT technologies, DevOps, or information security. Overall, the programme provides a balanced combination of programming, software engineering, mobile and web development, practical industry experience, research, and specialist technical knowledge, preparing graduates for professional roles in software development and related technology fields.
